Florida and Michigan will Count

Posted at 1:51 pm under Lies, Postures, etc...

There is a lot to be said about Hillary’s failed case for a re-vote in Florida and Michigan, but few are saying it.

The simple historical truth is that never has a state been effectively sanctioned all the way to the national convention. The only such precedent occasionally mentioned in the news is 1948. But it is a misleading precedent, because the 1948 Democratic Convention didn’t witness any sanctions, rather delegates from two states demonstratively walked out of the convention and chose not to have their voices counted!

Not only has a state never been effectively sanctioned, it has never had its delegate vote recalculated. Florida and Michigan delegates will be present at the National Convention, and they will cast their vote in accordance with February primary results. This is good news for Hillary supporters, and in all likelihood a better deal than if new elections had taken place.

***

Reports in the media suggests super delegates are eager to cast their vote by the end of June. NPR broadcasters claim  the nomination will be secure by that time. It is being suggested super delegates will vote based on which candidate secures the most popular vote.

My opinion?

Don’t bet on it. Superdelegaes are independent, and there are many in Obama’s camp who should have voted for Hillary, had they chosen to not be independent, and reflected the favors of their districts which went to Hillary. If super delegates were not independent, it is questionable whether Obama would have any at this stage. As long as Florida and Michigan can sway either the popular or delegate vote in anyones favor, they will hang around in both camps as possible end-scenarios. Don’t believe for one second, that FL and MI will be sidelined in this primary. They won’t.

I am taking bets, if there are takers.

And don’t buy into any media hype on who is destined to win the nomination. The media cannot abandon their wonderboy half-way in the game, because without them, he wouldn’t have been here in the first place, and they are expecting pay-backs if he goes on to win. Their talk of destiny, is just a continuation of their psychological warfare against anyone against Obama, so they can profit handsomely were he ever to be inaugurated. I can just foresee all the media deregulation Obama would pass into law under the pretext of securing America’s soft power.

Don’t believe any of it. MI and FL will count, and until Hillary is defeated, Obama hasn’t won. There is no destiny here, just media bias.

What other reason would she have for fabricating whopper stories about coming under sniper fire? There was no good reason for it unless she was pathologically inclined to do so.

I just looked at the DNC rules and the only remedy for a state that held the primary at the wrong time is to strip 50% of the committed delegates. By the same token, seat all of them but they each get half a vote. The rules don’t say that but it’d be the same thing. Nowhere does it say that a state’s votes shouldn’t count so add MI and FL popular votes to the totals.

    The rules:

Rules or no rules, the Fl primary was moved because of Republican interference. Have the republicans pay, not us. I will go to the convention if I have to, but I will protest to have each and every delegate counted.

if former attempts at sanctions failed, so shall this one

Wasn’t the South Carolina primary moved ahead too?

You sound exactly like the Obama supporters that I run into here in Austin. Zero credibility. No real facts. Arrogant to a fault and, quite possibly, because you continue to support an unelectable candidate…mentally unstable.

Obama CANNOT win the GE against McCain. Do you understand that? No, you don’t…because it is all about winning the nomination…the rest of the contest and the party be damned.
And, like Obama, you all lack critical thinking skills.

Maybe you should enroll in community college and learn a few things about the real world…

I feel so sorry for the “Delusional Obama Supporter” but how apt. At least he/she admits to the truth.

    DebDeb,
It’s amazing how you claim to be able to predict the outcome of future elections months in advance beyond any doubt. You must have a gift or something.

You guys are right, what the fuck do I know? I’m just delusional! bahahaha

  13. Hank Rothon 23 Mar 2008 at 6:42 pm 13

Yes, you are delusional. No question about it. Posting sound bites here isn’t proof of anything. What should be obvious to everyone by now is the sound thrashing she is getting from the media who loves to hate a women who is smarter than they are. She has the guts and the intelligence to manage this country right. Your blathering about Clinton and support for the perfidious Obama will be your loss and unfortunately everyone else will also be harmed by the damage which will be done. Obama is very good at deception. Read all about it at http://inyourface.info/crypt/
Inform yourself. We are not your enemy.

I see some of my links have been deleted. That’s fine. You can hide the facts from people on your blog, but you can’t hide the facts from the main stream media aka the masses.
Heads up. Hillary’s camp has conceded to ‘misspeaking’. The Associated Press has latched on. Obama’s camp is on the attack. Comedians are writing their late night material. It’s over for her. The superdelegates can finally see that she is damaged goods.

    Obama Rules:
    1. Rules are rules. Florida and Michigan primary votes should be ignored, because those states broke DNC rules and held primaries on forbidden dates. If we must pretend to the respect voters of those states, their votes should be allocated equally to the remaining candidates, thus rendering the votes meaningless. Why? Because rules transcend the will of the voters.
    2. Rules aren’t rules. Though the role of superdelegates is to vote for the candidate whom they believe will best serve the party and the country, that is not acceptable. Why? Because “the will of the voters” transcends any rules.

The media seemed fairly interest in BO’s vacation in Virgin Islands today. Meanwhile, Hillary is working hard to provide solutions for the economy. It is clear who is the best candidate to lead this country…..no more Bush and no more BO vacations….we need to get to work!!! GO HILLARY!!!!

  20. jayton 24 Mar 2008 at 7:59 pm 20

‘Not voting for this lying unpatriotic woman hater. Not doing it. I’m writing Hillary in if he doesn’t allow the voices to count in MI and FL. BO is the only one blocking it now. DNC and Hillary signed to go forward and BO will not sign it. Hillary even raised the money to pay for it. Hell no I won’t vote for a crooked liar who’s pastor hates America and all the crap he has done in this election. Hilary can still win without FL and MI but still these voters feel so forgotten in this important election.

Florida and Michigan will be seated. Hillary said so:
““Let’s have the Democratic party go on record against seating the Michigan and Florida delegations three months before the general election? I don’t think that will happen. I think they will be seated. So that’s where we’re headed if we don’t get this worked out.””
