Obama Republican Stooge? part II
So why did they do it? Why were the Republicans out to sabotage the Democratic party?
Two days ago the Times of London reported on carrots Obama dangled to the GOP. Key Republicans are being offered offices in a future Obama cabinet. Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defence, and Richard Lugar for… whatever he wants.
Clinton is painfully aware of the Republican-Obama nexus; as attested by her allusion to parallels between Republican attacks on her health plan and Obama’s attacks, yesterday’s comparisons of Obama to Kenneth Starr, and several of her mentions of Bush and Obama in the same breath. The Obama/Bush imagery is not accidental or simply a smear campaign to associate Obama with Bush (a legitimate comparison by all means). It is a reference, to a very real alliance of interests.
Only a year ago, the politico reported that the GOP thought Clinton unbeatable.
What many conservatives regard as the nightmare scenario — President Hillary Rodham Clinton – is increasingly seen by veteran Republican politicians and strategists as a virtual inevitability.
Countless polls were cited, consistently showing Clinton besting Obama in a run off with McCain. Only in February, did this change. But by than Obama enjoyed incredible media coverage that literally propelled him from obscurity to stardom. Did the Republican’s contribute to this rise?
Consider the ownership of America’s largest media conglomerates.
Fox - Murdoch, Republican
MSNBC - General Electric, Republican
CNN - Time Warner, split Republican/Liberal
ABC - Disney, Liberal
Now consider that ABC had coverage least critical of Hillary, while the rest, had coverage entirely critical of Hillary. No Republican influence in the media? Couldn’t possibly favor Obama, if they wanted to look liberal and divide the Democratic party by promoting him?
With Clinton’s OH/TX recovery, surveyusa’s latest poll places her as better fit to run against McCain, than Obama; much like prior to February. Whether she can keep this lead, is doubtful. With strong influence in the media, Republicans can continue their strategy of dividing the Democrats.

Only a year ago, the Democrats were a fearsome, united, and well structured party. Our main advantage lay in the massive coalition that Hillary had assembled and came to rely on. The Republicans not only openly acknowledged this advantage, but plotted against it:
“If the conservative movement and Republicans don’t understand how massive the Clinton coalition is, she will be the next president,” former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said in an interview
This Democratic coalition rested on the unity of all traditional Democratic voters, women and men of all colors, and broad swathes of the middle class.
Following Rove’s letter to Obama, and Obama’s meteoric rise, this coalition is in shambles.
Driven by megalomania, Obama wrecked the unity our party enjoyed, by stealing the black, youth, and liberal votes, and screwing the middle. But was he playing for the Republicans, or did he inadvertantly play into their hands?
The Republican’s did take an early liking to Obama; was this because he crossed traditional divides, or because:
One [Repubilcan] presidential adviser said that Clinton dread was actually helping Republican leaders stomach candidates who might otherwise be unacceptable. “People are willing to sacrifice some of their ideological principles to win,” the adviser said.
“Sacrifice”, for how long? Just long enough to weaken the Democratic coalition DeLay feared?
GOP leaders report that it is harder than ever to organize Republicans around a common cause and that Democrats have made progress in recent years in rebuilding the infrastructure of their party.
No Republican Common cause? I thought they got it from bashing Hillary.
Democrats made progress rebuilding our party infrastructure? I think Republican’s made Progress tearing it down. Or do I give the GOP too much credit? Should I insist Obama’s recklessness take all of it? Did Obama really tear us appart, single handedly, all on his own, with no help from the GOP?
The Republican’s certainly don’t suffer from want of means; nor from precedents of colluding with Democrats, if it serves their interests:
Dick Morris, the former top adviser to President Clinton, is raising money to help produce a documentary critical of Clinton. The movie is being made with Citizens United, a conservative advocacy group run by longtime Clinton opponents David N. Bossie and Floyd G. Brown.
From consultant to opponent. I can’t say who’s worse, Morris or Bossie.

The Republicans need a weak Democratic party, divided and demoralized, to take the White House in 2008. A year ago, this was their wish. Today, they have what the wanted.
While Obama must take most of the blame, he couldn’t have pulled it off without Rove’s instructions, the media’s support, and without reliance on early Republican vilification of Clinton that Obama’s campaign spoonfed to an accomplice liberal media.
I admit. I admire the the audacity of the Republicans stratagem.
Early 2007 they identified what they were up against in 2008. They set themselves to work. The opportunity came, they lent a hand. Results:
The Democratic party in disarray, tired, cynical, and tense. Now the GOP just needs to shoehorn McCain into that Bush Plantation.

This hypothesis makes a lot of sense to me. The Republicans are building Obama up just to tear him down in November. Only, their strategy may backfire b/c he might actually end up winning! I think the Repubs will regret their support if that happens. I don’t see BO working w/conservatives. He seems pretty far to the left.
Rosanna, I think that he will be working with Republicans. Half of his campaign is about how he is a unifier. He’ll be holding hands with the people who ruined our country for the last 8 years. Sounds like real change to me.
RO: I know he says his campaign is about unifying, but I chalk that up to a bunch of rhetoric. And as far as working with Republicans, I just don’t see how. He’s far to left on economic and social issues, plus wants to meet w/Raul Castro and Hugo Chavez. I don’t see how Republicans would be on board w/all that. Any ideas?
People who remember the Clinton years will remember the good times. Hillary’s supporters are her backbone and will never give up the real hope for real change and a great America starting in 2009.
